Katie Hyun
Violin
A winner of Astral Artists’ Auditions, Katie Hyun has been described as “a virtuoso by any measure” by The Berkshire Review. Her debut recital in Philadelphia showcased virtuosic works on both Baroque and modern violins.
She has appeared as a soloist with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Bay Atlantic Symphony, Houston Orchestra, Philadelphia Symphony, NOVUS Trinity Wall Street, and the Busan Sinfonietta and Incheon Philharmonic in South Korea, among others.
Katie currently serves as Concertmaster of NOVUS Trinity Wall Street, and Associate Concertmaster of the American Ballet Theater Orchestra, while also appearing in various chamber ensembles and festivals.
Katie founded and directed Quodlibet Ensemble, a collective of string players dedicated to creating musical experiences and inviting people to invest in their communities. Quodlibet and VOTEStart produced a video to raise voter awareness, premiering at the Five Boroughs Music Festival. She also teaches at Sing Sing Correctional Facility through Musicambia.
Paul Hyun
Cello
Paul Hyun received Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music as well as received Chamber Music Coaches Certificate from San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Paul has been a featured soloist with Palo Alto Philharmonic, SF Korean Symphony, Prometheus Symphony and the Gradus ad Parnassum Youth Orchestra, and SJSU Symphony Orchestra. Paul served as principal cellist for the SF Korean Symphony now known as Silicon Valley Philharmonic and Winchester Symphony Orchestras.
Paul is currently teaching privately for all ages and levels in Orange County. He is the founder of Improvicelli - a collaboration of cellists from the community who gather entertaining audiences from classical all the way to improvised styles of music.
He plays both the acoustic cello and electric cello with a looper. He has a black belt in Taekwondo.
Carlos Avila
Piano
Hailed for his “beautiful command of tone and mood, and unruffleable savoir-faire” (San Francisco Chronicle), Carlos Avila is one of the most in-demand pianists on the classical music scene.
An avid collaborative musician, Carlos has appeared in the chamber music series’ of The New York Philharmonic, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The San Francisco Symphony, and The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra among others. He has also served on the faculties of The Juilliard School, New York University, Rutgers University, The Heifetz International Music Institute, the Chautauqua Institution, Morningside Music Bridge, and Orford Musique.
Recent engagements include a Lincoln Center Presents debut at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center. A proud Filipino-American, Carlos is a graduate of The Juilliard School. Prior studies include Yale University.
