Interim Chancel Choir Director
Up to 12 hours/week
Rate of pay: $27–$34 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Job Overview
The Interim Chancel Choir Director will lead and direct the Chancel Choir in Sunday morning worship services and in weekly rehearsals (Thursday evenings 7-9 pm). The position starts immediately and continues until a permanent person is hired, hopefully in 4–6 months. The Interim Choir Director is welcome to apply for the long-term Chancel Choir Director position.
Job Responsibilities
- Nurture a caring community within the choir
- Direct the Chancel Choir anthems for Sunday morning traditional worship services (8:45–9:30 am rehearsal; 10:00 am in-person and livestreamed worship service)
- Direct the Chancel Choir rehearsals on Thursday evenings (7–9 pm)
- Select choir anthem music for Sunday morning worship, utilizing the Sunnyvale Pres music library or a modest budget for purchasing anthems. All anthems must be cleared for licensing in the Facebook Livestream arena. Usually this means using music in the public domain, or music covered by our OneLicense or CCLI memberships.
- Work with worship staff to coordinate worship themes and liturgical seasons, if applicable
- Provide anthem music to accompanist and Music Coordinator (Valerie) at least three weeks in advance
- Communicate choir plans regularly and work closely with accompanist and Music Coordinator (Valerie)
- Communicate well with other members of the Worship staff as needed
- Work cooperatively with other music teams within the church
Qualifications
- Several years of experience directing choirs
- Ability to coach singers at all levels of experience
- Knowledge of sacred choral literature

Working Relationships
This position:
- Reports to Music Coordinator for Sunday morning worship and organ/piano accompanist, and Worship Director
- Works closely with Organist
- Works as a colleague with others in allied ministries
