To our queer community,
As a church, we only recently “came out” as an affirming church in May of 2020. We admit that for too many years we worried that some members might leave if we took a stand to become open and affirming. We confess to being led by fear instead of being led by love that Jesus so clearly modeled in the gospels. And we acknowledge that we prioritized staying neutral and silent instead of proudly welcoming, affirming and celebrating our queer siblings in Christ. For all of this, we are deeply sorry.
To our queer members, friends and visitors, please hear this. We are a more beautiful church because of your presence. We are grateful that you have chosen to worship with us and to be a part of our community. And we acknowledge that it took us far too long to openly say this out loud.
