Evicting the American Dream amplifies the voices and stories of children and families confronting eviction and homelessness. Through additional interviews with pediatric psychologists, social workers, tenant rights organizations, housing authority officials, and eviction lawyers, this film explores the root causes and systemic issues that perpetuate this epidemic.

Panel Discussion and Q/A session will follow with the filmmaker and other local leaders who are dealing with these issues firsthand. Panelists include: Filmmaker David Barnhart, PDA (Presbyterian Disaster Assistance) and Counter Stories Productions; Ruby Ramirez, PACT (People Acting in Community Together); Benaifer Dastoor, Bill Wilson Center; and Dr. Tim ThomasUrban Displacement Project, UC Berkeley

Often when we hear the words ‘homelessness’ and ‘eviction’, there is a dominant narrative that says: “There is nothing we can do to prevent this from happening.” This film seeks to reframe, humanize, and transform how the wider public understands eviction and homelessness and the ways in which this is preventable.
